Crystal Maria Smith

Crystal Maria Smith, 49, embraced God’s extended hands and entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 19, 2018 surrounded by her family.  She was born March 12, 1969 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA.

Crystal was educated in the Virginia Beach Public School system. She attended Tidewater Community College where she received two Associate degrees and later received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Human Resources from Saint Leo College.

Crystal worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard for 13 years. She loved her job very much as well as her coworkers whom she considered her extended family. There was nothing you couldn't ask of her that she was not willing to do.

Crystal enjoyed going to concerts and live performances, historical museums, keeping abreast on current events and travelling. Her greatest joy was spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her grandparents, John Smith and Pearl Norfleet-Smith.

Crystal leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Brandon L. Smith, Brenton Smith, Brittany P. Brown, Cerdric Brown, Jr. and Alia Joyner; her mother, Vergie L. Smith; four siblings, Tamyra Jones, Glen Jones, Erica Jackson and Ebony Jackson; two grandchildren, Orion Brown and Nyla Brown; fiancé, Michael Freeman; and a host of other relatives and friends.
