Dennis Phillip Sanderlin, Sr. answered the Masters’ Call from his earthly home to his eternal home in Heaven on February 28, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born September 29, 1945 to the late Dennis H. and Beatrice Sanderlin in Norfolk, VA. He was predeceased by his brother, Glenn S. Sanderlin.
Dennis was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School and received his BS degree in Business and Marketing from Norfolk State University. Dennis enlisted in the US Army in December 1966 as an Admin Clerk. While serving in the US Army, he served as a stock clerk and movement specialist. While serving in Vietnam from 1968-1969, he received the National Defense service medal during the Vietnam Campaign. He also received the Vietnam service medal. Dennis was a rifle marksman and served three years until his honorable discharge as a Specialist 5 in 1969. He later worked as a Systems Analyst for Fleet and Industrial Supply Center for over 30+ years.
Dennis was an active member of First Baptist Church, West Munden, where he served on the Usher’s Ministry, Golden Grace Senior’s Ministry, Food Bank Ministry, Advisor to the Constitution and By-Laws Committee, Men’s Day Chair, Church & Pastor’s Anniversary Chair, Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader and Choir member until his health began to fail. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Toastmasters, GWC High School Band, NSU Alumni Band, West Munden Civic League and the Joshua #66 Prince Hall Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included reading, baseball, basketball, plumbing and carpentry.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Juanita C. Sanderlin; four daughters, Charlene Mayes, Avis Middleton (Terrance), Tami Miles and Tameca Miles; two sons, Dennis Phillip Sanderlin, Jr. and Kevin Andre Sanderlin (Dawna); five sisters, Beatrice S. Spady, Gardenia B. Sanderlin, Mary Y. Sanderlin, Eunice E. Sanderlin and Dorothy S. Wilkins (John L.); two brothers, John H. Sanderlin, Sr. (Geraldine) and Vernon E. Sanderlin, Sr. (Dr. Rosalynn L.); 22 grandchildren, Sacoria, Anita, Ryan, Amore, Robbie, Tyler, Romel, Travion, Travious, Neval, Jordan, Dayshia, Sweet Charity, Riland, Da’Kayla, Kiersten, Shaniya, Miles, Olivia, Errick, Jermaine, Lasonda and Malachi; 8 great-grandchildren, Leyonna, Aaliyah, Jordan, Nasir, Milan, King, Treasure and Trevor; special children, Debra Brown, Melanie Brown and Stephanie Willis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
