Geneva Inez Hailey, 92, went home to be with the Lord on October 27, 2018.
Geneva Inez Martin Hailey was born in Lumber City, Georgia to the late Sarah and Johnny Martin on October 9, 1926. Her family migrated to Brooklyn, New York where she attended Girls High School and after graduation she attended City College.
Professionally, she worked for Manufacturers Hanover Trust for 30 years before retiring as a Department Manager. Geneva was polished and focused. She warmed the hearts of those around her with her beautiful smile, kind heart and acts of service. She was always trying to be helpful and a resource to others.
Geneva was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church-Brooklyn, where she served as an usher and trustee for over fifteen years and became a member of that church’s Morning Stars organization. Not one to stay idle, Geneva was a tremendous advocate and supporter of the young people in the Church. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and enjoyed hosting field trips for her troop. She was also a member of the board of trustees at the Bushwick Women’s homeless shelter in Brooklyn, New York. When she moved to Virginia Beach, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels for the city of Virginia Beach. In recent times Geneva attended New Jerusalem Ministries and looked forward to Sunday as she enjoyed and truly loved her church family there.
Geneva is survived by her daughter, Laura Toomer (Thad); two sons, David Braxton (Kaye); and Rick Braxton, (Mary). Her eldest son Burrell Braxton went home to be with the Lord in 2015. She was also blessed with eight grandchildren: Crystal, David Jr, Shameca, Ronald, Chad, Christopher, Darnell, Stephanie and Kristin and ten great-grandchildren.
She will always be loved and remembered.
