Mother Mary J. Hyman, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, was called home to be with the Lord, on Monday, July 15, 2019.
Mother Mary, 100 years young, was born on June 30, 1919 to the late Charles and Sallie Mae Sutton in Edenton, North Carolina.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She served faithfully as a member and church Mother for well over 45 years at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ. She had a vivacious personality and loved everyone whom she had the pleasure of knowing. Mother Mary loved the Lord and enjoyed serving, ushering and being a Church Mother to many members of the congregation. Mother enjoyed chewing her juicy fruit gum, soft peppermints and a good cold diet pepsi. She also enjoyed and loved her family, good southern cooking, gardening, bingo and boy did she love her some good ol' pig-feet. If you had the pleasure of knowing her, then you know she loved the Lord and was a dedicated worker who was truly committed to the task at hand. Mother, had a great sense of humor, and always lifted the spirits of those around her.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Johnson; one sister, Frances Hurdle; one son, Dwight Earl Hyman and close special family friend, Johnny Manning.
Mother Mary Hyman also leaves to cherish her memory, two grandchildren, Alethea Woodley (Almanzo) of Chesapeake VA, Alester Beans of Virginia Beach, VA; adopted children, Laura Crews, Norman & Gregory Sharpe all of Virginia Beach, VA; six great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; close special friend, Helen L. Manning & family and a host of other relatives and friends near and far.
