Early Saturday morning September 22, 2018, the Lord called our mother, sister and grandmother, Shirley Beatrice Smith home to Eternal rest.
Mother Smith also known as “Boo-Boo” was born June 2, 1938 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late William Joseph Jones and the late Christine Jones. She was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother. She worked for many years in the church as a Mother. Mother Smith was always working in the church. God used her as a platform to start various programs such as: the Church Food Bank, Noon Day Prayer and Women’s Meetings. For many years, she headed the Mother’s Board at Zion Light Disciples of Christ. She was often called upon by family and friends because of her willingness to serve. She was a member of Zion Light Disciples of Christ and later attended Angels of Gods Outreach Ministry until her recent illness.
In addition to her father and mother, Mother Smith was predeceased by her husband, William Henry Smith, Sr., son, William Henry Smith Jr, granddaughter, Shenita Smith, grandson, Breon Burnham and sister, Queenie Jordan.
Mother Smith will be missed by her sister, Evelyn Jones; daughters, Joyce Etheridge (Robert), Shirley Smith (Drew) and Mary Smith; brothers, Roosevelt Smith (Regina), Percy Smith (Karen) and Bishop Elijah Smith (Loretta); 23 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
