Wayland Merriwether, 64, entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 13, 2019.
Wayland Edward "Fooky" Merriwether was born December 17, 1954 in Virginia Beach, VA to the late Gordon “Cid” Merriwether and Corine H. Merriwether. He earned a General Education Diploma, and soon after began working for the City of Virginia Beach, where he remained for 39 years until his retirement. Fooky was a member of St. Mark AME Church.
Besides his father, Fooky was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Richard Jones, Eva Dunn; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Gladys Merriwether; and nephew, Curtis Merriwether.
Fooky's memory will be cherished by his daughter, Chanel Turner; grandson, Cha'Vion Turner; mother, Corine H. Merriwether; siblings, Curtis B. Merriwether, Stacy L. Merriwether, Andre Williams, Allen Creekmore; aunt, Maxine Collick (who he especially adored); two special friends who are also considered to be brothers that will cherish his memory as well, Johnny McCray and Herman "Pep" Miles; three additional special friends, Carolyn M. Palmer, Patricia Day and Gail Ward. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
