Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, William Kermit Mitchell peacefully passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was born December 14, 1938 to the late William and Nettie Mitchell in Princess Anne County, VA. He attended Princess Anne Training School and Union Kempsville High School.
He was a member of the Senior Resource Center and also a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ Disciples under the leadership of Pastor Daniel Boston, Jr. who couldn’t be here due to surgery. Elder Mitchell was ordained under the North Carolina and Virginia Assembly under the late Bishop Daniel Boston, Sr. He then preached and taught the gospel of Jesus Christ compelling all who heard God’s voice to come and be saved. He was also a member of the Pleasant Ridge Male Chorus and Senior Choir, the Greenleaf Male Chorus and the Travelettes of Virginia Beach.
He was dedicated to his job with the City of Virginia Beach, Department of Parks and Recreation, where he worked for over 30 years. While employed with the City, he made many lifelong friends and was held in high regard by those who knew him both personally and professionally.
He was predeceased by a son, Kevin J. Mitchell; his siblings Melvin Griffin, Willie Griffin and Stanley Mitchell.
Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife of 60 years, Georgia Mae Mitchell; children, Mary A. Little, Janice Beckles (Charles), Cheryl J. Mitchell, Kimberly D. Jernigan, Kermit F. Mitchell (Sheila) and Shenean L. Mitchell; one sister, Rosa L. Henderson (Edward); one sister-in-law, Joyce Griffin; nine grandchildren, Turkessa Owens, Charles Beckles, Jr. (Anna), Janelle Bell (James), Jasper Owens (Lakeesha), Jarrett Jernigan, Shayna Mustafa (Harun), Jasmine Green (Nicholas), Justin Jernigan and Shalia Mitchell; two aunts, Bernice Watson and Louise White; special cousin, Pastor Mary King; special friend, Rev. John Haynes; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
