With humbled hearts and consoling minds, the Beach Funeral Services Family serves notice that Ada M. Bright has layed down the cares of this world. From there, she picked up her new wardrobe and golden keys for her everlasting Life in Heaven.
Ada Marie Bright, 86, of Norfolk, Virginia, went on to her heavenly home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2021, with her husband by her side.
Ada was born on July 25, 1934, in Princess Anne County to the late William and Elizabeth Mayes. She was a bright child who loved the Lord and serving him and the community brought her great joy.
Ada was an educator; she received a Master’s degree in Reading from Regent University and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Norfolk State University. For over 30 years, Ada was a Reading Specialist, Elementary and Middle School Teacher for Norfolk Public Schools. Throughout her career she also taught at Norfolk State University.
Mrs. Bright was very spiritual and loved her church, First Baptist Church West Munden. She was a faithful member, Chairperson of Trustees and a longstanding Church Clerk. She was also an active member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Dorcus Bethany Bessie Ellison #50, PHA for over 60 years. She held the title of Past Worthy Matron.
Besides her parents, Ada was predeceased by one sister, Fern Mayes and two brothers, Howard and Lynn Mayes.
Ada leaves to cherish her fond memories, her husband, Walter A. Bright; daughter, Demetrius B. Harris (James); grandchildren, James Corey-Alexander Harris, Cameron Christopher-David Harris; siblings, Chaplain Hope Sanderlin, LaRose Goffigan, Hellen Culbert (Eugene), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Due to COVID, a private graveside Celebration of Life service will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday, April 20, 2021, Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. A live stream of the service will be on the website. The public is welcomed to the walk-through viewing, **Face mask must be worn**
