Akeem Jamar Cowell departed this life on Thursday, September 25, 2025.  He was born on October 03, 1989 in Virginia Beach VA.  He was preceded in death by his brothers Ronaldo Dishelle Cowell and Brandon Kent Cowell; his parental grandparents, Martha and Miles Cowell, and his uncle Welton Cowell.

Akeem received his GED while attending the Commonwealth Challenge Virginia Beach and continue his education at Centura College to receive his Associate of Occupational Science Computer Network Management Degree.  He entered the Military Sealift Command in 2008 to 2009.  He was employed as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) for many years, a career he loved.  He would always say “Dad, I learned this work from you.”  Aikeem was employed by the following companies from 2010 – 2025.  He worked for (Ms. Carla L., Community Services of VA, City of Virginia Beach, City of Chesapeake, VA, the ARKK Group and the Person-to-Person, LLC. 

Akeem was baptized early in life at New Hope Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, VA.  He was an avid Washington Commander’s fan (formerly named, The Washington Redskins) and he loved to cook.    His specialty was BBQ ribs and BBQ chicken.  He also loved Chinese food, seafood, his mom’s lasagna and his dad’s German chocolate cake.

Akeem is survived by his daughters, Vernia Ayers, Aaliyah Edmond; his parents, Kent and Gail Cowell, one brother Tyjuan Cowell, grandmother, Nellie Williams; two aunts, Anita Gatlin, Chesapeake, VA and Vernelle McMichael of Lancaster, CA; seven uncles, Willie, New York, Myron (Angela), Virginia Beach, Mike (Sandra) Jacksonville, FL; Dwight (Kayon), Atlanta, GA; Bertram, Suffolk, VA; Edwin (Charmaine), San Francisco, CA and Austin, Maine; special aunt, Evelyn Lane, best friends, Derrick and Aaron; Akeem loved to cook.
