Alice Lee Maye Clements was born on January 3, 1938 to the late Oscar Maye Sr. and Lizzie Williams Maye in Greensville, North Carolina.
She attended Bethel Union High School in Bethel, North Carolina. After graduation she met the love of her life Richard "Jip" Clements and they were married Aµgust 13, 1959. They moved to Norfolk and then resided in Chesapeake until her passing. To this union four kids were born.
Alice Lee was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and later joined New Light. She was a member of Esther Chapter 10. Grand Chapter of North Carolina Order of the Eastern Star. She held the position of Conductor. She was employed for years at Kentucky Fried Chicken before she retired.
"Sapphire" as she was called by the love of her life and best friend for 65 years loved to cook. You could always count on her to feed you. Sunday dinner and all holidays her house was the place to be. She was a great entertainer, bartender and the life of any party. Her doors were always open. She treated everyone she came in contact withkindness and never met a stranger. She made it happen.
Alice also was known for dressing up every day. Always matching from head to toe, rings on every finger and jewelry fit for the Queen that she was.
Preceding her in death was her devoted Husband, Richard "Jip" Clements; Daughters, Lendora Maye, Brenda Clements; Son, Arthur "Nick" Clements; Grandson, Alphonso "Man" Clements; Sisters, Carrie Bell Harris, Effie Maye, Zenobia Maye-Joyner, Mary Maye Little, Blonnie Maye Hardy; Brothers Oscar Maye Jr. and Willie Roy Maye.
Left to cherished her memories are her children, Richard Jr. and Oscar Clements (Bene' Robinson) both of Chesapeake, VA; Grandsons, Stephon Barcliff, Isaiah Richard Clements, Takayon Maye and Nathan Ali (Shanekia); Granddaughters, Patricia Cleaver, Nickell Clements, Keeda Pate and Toshibra Maye; Great-Grandchildren Chloe' Dobbs, Grayson Pate, Stephon Barcliff Jr., Stephanie and Zoie Holloway, Teon Newberry, Taizmerra Randolph, Briana Maye, Arianna and Nash Ali; two nieces that she called her sisters, Dorothy Maye Lee and Shirley Jean Harris; Sisters-in-Law, Shirley Clements, Ruth Hood and Mary Billups both of Norfolk, VA, Velma Burgess of Seat Pleasant, MD; Daughter-in-law, Curlandra Clements; Dear Friend, Mary Givens; Caretaker, Phyllis Price, and a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
