Anne Martin Obituary

Anne Martin, 90, of Norfolk, VA, passed away peacefully September 1, 2021 to be with God while surrounded by her family.

Born in Linwood, NJ in 1930, she was a stellar student at Atlantic City High School before turning down college scholarships to enter the workforce to help support her family.   She married Salvatore Musarra, her high school sweetheart, and settled in Norfolk Virginia, raising a family of four children while caring for her own mother until her death at age 94.  She loved to dance to big band music with her second husband Fred Baker, with whom she had a fifth child.  She loved cooking Jewish and Italian dishes to please both sides of her cultural heritage.  At age 50, Anne resumed her working career in the insurance industry until her retirement, choosing to stay busy with volunteer work including leadership roles with AARP, and the BPOE Norfolk Lodge Ladies Auxiliary.   At the age of 70, she found the love of her life, Bud Martin, with whom she spent a wonderful ten years travelling the country and covering her refrigerator with magnetic memories from every journey.   She loved to sing, write stories, read books, do her daily crossword puzzles, and eat her favorite chocolate chip cookies.   She was a woman of faith, born into Judaism and converting to Catholicism and all who knew her understood the strength of her faith and reliance on God to know that “everything would work out”.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband Beverly “Bud” Martin, and former spouses Salvatore Musarra and Fred P. Baker, her parents William and Lena Pincus; brother David; sister Idell Foldoe, sister Henrietta “Betty” Gilbert, granddaughter Angela Swearingen, and great-grandson Noah Harris. Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Maria Ellison and husband Lonny of Tega Cay, SC; Barbara Norton and husband Gary of Chesapeake, VA; Salvatore Musarra and wife Lucy of Richmond, VA; Chris Musarra of Waynesboro, VA; Fred Baker and his wife Melissa of Norfolk, VA. and five stepsons.   She also leaves a lasting legacy of ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. September 10, 2021, at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church in VA Beach.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Jude Hospital for Children, Alzheimer Association, or St Gregory the Great Scholarship Fund
