Apostle James Andrew Spruill, Sr. 81, of Chesapeake, Virginia was called to his eternal home on September 28, 2020. He was born on November 17, 1938 in Robersonville, North Carolina to the late Elijah and Olivia Spruill.
James was educated in the North Carolina Public School System. Soon after graduation, he received his calling to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Which led to his leadership role as the Senior Pastor of Norfolk Evangelistic Church for 33 years. In his leisure, James enjoyed reading, singing, fishing, crabbing and spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Elijah and Olivia Spruill; his siblings, Melvin Spruill, Ethel Mae Jones, Lillie Mae Little, Augustine Spruill, Johnnie Morris and Sylvester Spruill.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Irene Spruill of Chesapeake, VA; 6 children, Gregory Allmond (Angelice) of Chesapeake, VA, Venesia Gordon (Maurice) of Fredericksburg, VA, Valerie Vaughan (Anthony) of Chesapeake, VA, James Spruill Jr. (Melissa) of Chesapeake, VA, Antonio Spruill (Heather) of Chesapeake, VA, and Donald Edwardo (Barbara) of the Eastern Shore, VA; grandchildren, James D. Spruill (Kenyana) Spruill, James Spruill III, Shanica Johnson (Kenny), Latoya Askew, Brittany Winters (Joseph “Joe”) and Sergio Valero; great grandchildren, Josiah Johnson, Kaziyah Spruill, James Spruill IV, Jayde Winters, Kyndall Spruill and Nnamdi Herron; siblings, Walter Spruill and Carolyn Peel; special friends, Elder McCoy, Elder Fields, Elder Mehair, Elder Deloach, Randolph Turner, Dwayne Threadqill and Richard Whitehurst and a host of relatives and friends.
