The Obituary
In Loving Memory of Bernadette McLean
Bernadette Robinson McLean was born on January 8,1946, in Norfolk, VA to the late Ester Mae Robinson and went to her eternal rest on October 21, 2025. Bernadette will be united in heaven with her mother, her sisters Betty Jacob and Elaine Reed, her son Bernardo Robinson, and her granddaughter, Taletha McLean.
Bernadette attended Norfolk Public schools to receive formal education and later became a CNA for Norfolk Public Schools System for over 20 years.
Bernadette’s deep love for the Lord and her family was the foundation of everything she did. Her unwavering faith and devotion guided her life and inspired those around her. Through this passion, she successfully nurtured the spiritual growth of her children and grandchildren, ensuring they were introduced to Christ in meaningful and lasting ways that touched every aspect of their lives, from personal values to daily decisions.
Whenever Bernadette attended family gatherings, her presence was a gentle reminder of the importance of gratitude and faith. She never missed an opportunity to remind us that every blessing we received was a gift from the Lord. Her words, often spoken with warmth and conviction, left a lasting impression and helped shape the spiritual fabric of our family.
Bernadette came to know the grace of God and joyfully accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at St. Paul Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop W.L Daniels, Sr. Her commitment to the ministry was evident in her service as the leader of the Nursing Ministry for over 30 year and the Berkeley District Nurse. She also participated in the Words of Life Ministry Broadcast where voice was utilized to deliver the announcements.
Her devotion to the Lord remained steadfast throughout her life. Even as her health began to decline she would often support her grandson and attend Fellowship COGIC. She remained a faithful and dedicated worshipper, continuing to inspire those around her with her spiritual strength and unwavering belief in God’s goodness. Bernadette’s faith never wavered.
To celebrate her life and legacy, Bernadette leaves behind four children: Orlando McLean of Norfolk, VA; Samantha Price of Norfolk, VA; Kesha Skyles of Chesapeake, VA, and Jonnie Reed of DC. She is also survived by three beloved sisters: Bertha M. Robinson Jones (Dennis), Hattie Washington, and Audrey Taylor; her aunt, Helen Johnson (Jack); three grandchildren, Winter Howard, Jerome Skyles (Latasha) and Taylor Skyles; two great-grandchildren, Toyri and Jayla Skyles; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, will continue to cherish her memory.
