On Saturday, January 27, 2024; In an early morning hour, our beloved Deacon Bernard Jefferson Burnham, Sr. quietly answered God’s call and entered eternal rest. Bernard was the first of five children born to the late Steve Linwood and Alberta Corine Williams Burnham on October 1,1952 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Bernard was educated in the Virginia Beach Public school system, and after graduating from Floyd E. Kellam High School; he enlisted and served his country in the United States Army. 

After his Army career, Bernard discovered his love for eighteen wheelers and long-distance driving. He was previously employed by Camilla Food, Inc.; A. Stanley Munden, Inc.; Paramount Sleep Company and Service Transport, Inc. Bernard, was blessed by God and so proud to establish his very own trucking company B&I Trucking, Inc. He drove from coast to coast and enjoyed every mile. Bernard leaves a lasting legacy of roads traveled and hearts that he touched along the way. 

Bernard was a faithful dedicated member of New Rising Sun United Holy Church, located in Norfolk, VA. He served as a deacon and executive board member. Bernard attended Sunday school and worship service regularly until his health declined. He was blessed to be honored by his church as an "Unsung Hero" on January 21,2024. Bernard loved his Pastor, First Lady and Church Family. 

Bernard's hobbies included bowling and watching muscle-car racing. As an avid bowler, Bernard won several trophies, pins, patched and various other awards. He was only 1 pin away from a perfect game which he happened to bowl on his birthday. On any given Saturday, Bernard could be found at the race tracks having the time of his life with Lawrence Gregory and/or Josephus Godfrey. During, the week days, Bernard found fulfillment in volunteering for Lee's friends, encouraging and transporting cancer patients to various medical appointments.

In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. Richard Daniel Burnham; sister, Dr. Rosa Pearl Burnham; and nephew, Master Brion Dominique Jones.  

Bernard aka "Honey”  is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Elder Ivy Albritton Burnham; children, Ms. Bettina Joy Selby, Mrs. Toshiba Monique Mike (Richard) and Bernard Jefferson Burnham, Jr. (Kimberly); grandchildren (the apples of his eye), Jordan, Kendall and Taylor; sister, Ms. Gloria H. Burnham; brother, Mr. Chris Burnham (Deneen); aunts, Ms. Shirley Conley, Missionary Audrey Cornick, and Ms. Jeanette Lassiter; and uncle, Deacon Reuben Williams (Jackie). 

Also, Bernard will be gravely missed by his mother-in-love, Mother Annie Albritton; sisters-in-love, Ms. Diane Burnham, Mrs. Felecia Carter (Leonard), Mrs. Beverly Johnson (Terry) and Mrs. Gwendoln Sims (Ernest); brother-in-law, Mr. Michael Albritton (Dolmeshia); "bonus-2nd-daughter," Miss Antionette Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
