Bernard Traylor was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was born on February 5, 1931 in Brundidge, Alabama, to the late Mathew and Emma Nell Traylor. He departed this world on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at the age of 92.
His family later moved to Thomaston, GA where he attended public school. After attending Franklin K. Lane HS, Bernard honorably served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Army from January 1952 to January 1954. After his military service, he moved to New York where he devoted 37 years with NYC Health and Hospital Corp. as an EMT and Driver. Simultaneously, he was self employed as a highly skilled upholsterer. In his free time, you could find him fishing or bowling. He did not talk much, but when he did, he meant every word.
Bernard’s legacy is his love of family and his love of God. Over the years, he was an active member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Elmont, New York, Pleasant Grove in Chesapeake, VA and found his forever church home at New Jerusalem Ministries in Virginia Beach, VA. He nourished his faith through “Noon Day” prayer services that he attended regularly.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Marie Joseph, Annie Nell Chavis, Jim Traylor, Mathew Traylor, Bernice Johnson and three daughters: Janet, Gloria and Bernell.
Bernard will be lovingly remembered by his wife Beverly of 33 years; daughters, Stefania and Laverne; sister, Virdie Traylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law and a grand pup.
This gentle soul will be missed by lifelong friends, family members and others he touched throughout his life.
