Brett Williams, Sr. Obituary

Brett Allen Williams, Sr. was born October 21, 1942, in Patton, PA to Benjamin and Bertha Solomon Williams. The oldest of three sons, he was preceded in death by his brother, Blaine.

Darrell resides in Patton, PA. He was married to Barbara Baker Williams from June 25, 1960, through her passing on October 28, 2020, a span of sixty years.

Three children survive him: Brett Jr. (Melanie), Karen Hudgins-Fields, and Terry Williams. He is also survived by three granddaughters, one grandson, and three great-grandchildren.

Brett attended Patton High School, where he graduated in 1960 and immediately married Barbara before joining the U.S. Navy. In High School, he played on the football team and threw the javelin in track. He boasted of trying out as a catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. Brett had a long career in the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of Chief. A veteran of two tours in Vietnam, he told stories of being on river boats with bullets tracing past him from the river shore. He completed numerous six-month U.S. Navy cruises around the world. His "Forrest Gump" career included being at the Bay of Pigs in Cuba, picking up astronauts out of the ocean, visiting his relatives in the mountains of Beirut, Lebanon, and cooking for the King of Norway. He created a mashed potato replica of a deer using his son's deer antlers, which was featured in a Virginian-Pilot newspaper article. His last tour was on the U.S. Battleship Iowa, which was commissioned in the early 1980s. Brett enjoyed his pubs, Ms. Kitty's and Jolly Frog, until the end. He enjoyed coaching youth football and baseball in the Aragona-Pembroke leagues. Brett was known for telling tall tales and awful jokes. He found his faith late in life and was baptized in the Catholic Church. He will be missed by his family.
