CDR (Ret) Everett R. Johnson, Jr.

Everett Ray Johnson Jr. Chesapeake – CDR (Ret) Everett R. Johnson Jr. was born on March 19, 1942. He passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024 at the home of his daughter after a long illness. God said “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, NLT).

Everett Johnson grew up in Huntersville/Lindenwood area Norfolk, VA. He graduated from Norfolk Division of Virginia State College in Norfolk, VA, Class of 1967. He retired from the United States Navy after 25 years of service. He was a helicopter pilot
and the executive officer for the Navy ROTC program at Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University and Hampton Institute for five years. While in the Navy he obtained his real estate license and became a Real Estate Broker and a Class A Contractor, owning his own company, Spartan Realty.Everett was a lifelong member of of Historic First Baptist Church on Bute Street in Norfolk. He assisted the church in his capacity as a realtor and a contractor which he enjoyed because he never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He had many acquaintances and if he called you a friend, it meant something special because he said, “Real friends are hard to find.”

He was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Marie Johnson, his ex-wife, Mary H. Johnson and his son, Everett R. Johnson, III. Left to cherish his memory, forever, are his children: Tracy R. Hodges (Taekwon) of Chesapeake, VA, Malcolm R. Johnson of Denver, CO, Danielle R. Griffin (William Charles) of Portsmouth, VA, three grandchildren: Taylor M. Hodges, Dominic L. Griffin, II, Alyssa D. Johnson, and a host of other relatives & friends.

There will be a viewing at Beach Funeral Home located at 4456 Bonney Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462 on Sunday August 11, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral service will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 at First Baptist Church, 418
East Bute Street, Norfolk, VA 23510. Prior to the service, a viewing will be held at 10a.m. Senior Pastor, Reverend Jerry Holmes will be the officiant and Rev. Dr. James Edwards, III will be the eulogist for the 11 a.m. service.
