Catherine M. Gray

Catherine was born on January 23, 1944, in Princess Anne County located in Virginia Beach to the late Norman and Evelyn Knight.

In 1963, she graduated from Princess Anne County Training School. Catherine continued her education in early childhood development at Norfolk State University where she received an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She was employed with the STOP Organization where she was awarded several star items in the early education organization.

On March 17, 1969 Catherine met and married the love of her life Arnett Gray, Sr. while employed at The Kempsville Golf Club. Catherine was a loving, caring, devoted wife and grandmother. She and her husband raised their grandson Arnett Jermel (who was like a son) after his mother passed. Catherine was a member at Greater Harvest Baptist Church where she served in leadership as a Deaconess.

Catherine loved gardening, caring for her house plants and watching them grow. She enjoyed playing spades and pinnacle, listening to music especially the O’Jays, watching classic movies, reality shows and Life Time movies. She enjoyed cooking for the family and reading books to children brought her much joy.

Catherine was predeceased by her brothers Willis Knight, Frank Knight, Robert Knight, James Knight, Ernest Knight and John Knight; two sisters, Eva Knight Allen and Lenora Knight.
She leaves to mourn her step-son Ronald J. Gray, grandson Arnett Jermel Gray, III (Shannon), Ashley Campbell, Alison Campbell, Stacey Gray, Sabrina Collins, A. J. Gray and Dana Evans, great -grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
