Christopher Antonio “Tony” Shazel was born on October 6, 1970 in the city of Norfolk, VA to Mr. Jewel C. Shazel and Ms. Delores Haynes. He was educated in the Chesapeake Public School system and was a proud graduate of Indian River High School, class of 1989.
As a child, Tony was artistically inclined and grew to be very fond of the arts specifically poetry and songwriting. He was a kind, gentle, and loving man who loved to cook, a great baker and a lover of music. He could be found on any given day listening to his favorite tunes. Tony was a friendly and outgoing person who knew no stranger. He found fulfillment in meeting new people, gathering together with friends, or simply spending time in small intimate groups with his loved ones.
Tony loved God with all his heart and was a faithful member of City of Refuge Kingdom Church, under the leadership of Pastor Lionel & Lady Beverly Goodwyn. He loved his church family and cherished each moment he had in worship. On January 19, 2020, Tony was blessed to marry the love of his life, Deneka Marita Smith-Shazel. From this union, God blessed him to also gain a son, Daevion Smith.
Christopher “Tony” was predeceased by his biological father, Mr. Jewel C. Shazel, and step-father, Mr. Henry C. Wiley Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Deneka Marita Smith-Shazel; his son, Daevion Smith; his mother, Delores H. Revels; his brothers, Mr. Vincent A. Wiley and Mr. Michael C. Wiley Sr.; his sisters, Sonya Davis and Charmaine Hicks and one aunt, Ms. Barbara H. Lovelace. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
