Cora M. Harris Mitchell

As the sun rises and sets, life begins and ends. 

On Wednesday September 21, 2022, Cora M. Harris Mitchell of Virginia Beach, Virginia received her wings. Cora was born on December 17, 1945 in Columbus, Mississippi to William and Annie Harris. 

In November of 1967 Cora and Henry Mitchell joined in holy matrimony. The young Navy couple lived in a few states before settling down in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Cora loved being a devoted wife and mother. She effortlessly managed the ebb and flow of being a “military” spouse and doting mom. There were always family meals at the table, care  packages mailed to Henry, and her daughter, Stephanie, never missed a dance recital, a piano lesson, or a Girl Scout meeting. Cora enjoyed a career in the banking and financial services industry. After retiring she spent her leisure time shopping, traveling, watching classic westerns, and spoiling her grandchildren. Her southern charm, quick wit, and captivating story telling will be missed by all who knew her. She is adored by her family, and they will miss her immensely. 

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Henry, her daughter Stephanie Grayson(James), her granddaughter Alexis, her grandson Avery, two sisters Bonnie Turner(Jerry) and Ollie Taylor, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jessie, Curley, Andrew, Herman, William, and Larry Harris. Memorial services will be held privately by the family. Interment will be at the Albert G Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
