David Edward Moore, lovingly known as Dave, was born on September 12, 1967, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Vivian Celestine Patterson and Edward James Moore. From an early age, Dave showed the discipline, heart, leadership, and quiet determination that would define his journey through life.
Dave graduated from Overbrook High School in 1985, where he became an exceptional track athlete and a natural leader. A gifted middle‑distance runner, he competed in the 800 and 1600 meters, still holding school records in both events. He was also a proud member of Overbrook’s last championship‑winning track team of 1985, a legacy that continues to stand tall.
After high school, Dave earned a place on the Junior Olympics Track & Field Team, where he competed at the national level and returned home a champion, bringing joy and pride to his family and community.
His athletic excellence earned him a track scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where he competed in the 800‑meter and 4×800 relay events. His love for track continued to deepen, leading him overseas to compete professionally on the international stage as he trained in preparation for the 1992 Summer Olympics.
At the Olympic Trials, Dave suffered a torn Achilles injury, abruptly ending his competitive running career. Though the moment was heartbreaking, Dave met it with resilience, faith, and the strength to choose a new path forward.
In 1992, Dave married his childhood sweetheart, Pati Moore. Together, they built a life grounded in love, partnership, and shared purpose. Their entrepreneurial spirit led them to renovate homes and eventually open a mortgage company, providing financing opportunities within their community and helping others build stability and generational wealth. Their first renovated house became their first home, and their block on 15th Street in North Philadelphia grew into more than a place to live it became family. Dave’s leadership extended naturally into this work; he was a steady presence, a builder, and a guide for those around him.
Before relocating, Dave built a long and respected 18‑year career with Philadelphia Suburban Water in Great Valley, where he was known for his reliability, integrity, mentorship, and strong leadership. He made a lasting impact on colleagues and the community he served.
Seeking a slower pace and a fresh start, Dave and Pati relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia. Never afraid of reinvention, Dave embarked on a new career in law enforcement, first serving in Hampton, Virginia, and later fulfilling a calling as a K‑9 Police Officer with the Norfolk Airport Authority. An accomplished trainer, Dave became a recognized leader throughout the Seven Cities, admired for his professionalism, skill, humility, and unwavering commitment to service.
Beyond his many accomplishments, Dave embraced life fully and joyfully. He loved bourbon, enjoyed laughing at and sharing TikToks, and carried an infectious laugh that lit up any room. His three beloved dogs Billa, Archy, and Kodak were constant companions who brought him daily happiness.
Dave loved his family fiercely. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 33 years, Pati Moore; his children Ariel, Naomi, and Ben; his sister, Elayne Johnson; his niece Deanna Fortune; his nephew Stephen Johnson; and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends whose lives he led, shaped, and strengthened with generosity, wisdom, and heart.
Dave will be remembered as a man of strength, leadership, adaptability, and profound love a champion on the track, a protector in service, and a pillar within his community and family. His legacy lives on in every life he uplifted, every young person he guided, and every heart he touched.
