David Shippy Obituary

David Wesley Shippy
On Tuesday, February 18, 2025 David (Dave) Wesley Shippy of Virginia Beach, VA passed away at the age
of 64.
Dave was born in Charlevoix, Michigan on October 6, 1960.
Dave married his forever love, Lucy (Wiklanski), in 1983 and settled into life as a Navy spouse. They
traveled frequently, settling in Virginia Beach in 1993, calling it home. Dave maintained full time
employment at various duty stations while providing a stable and loving home life for their two children.
Dave loved gardening and then canning his hard-won produce. He loved sunshine! Many jars of dill
pickles and salsa have been shared with neighbors and family. He loved jigsaw puzzles, card games,
jokes, basketball, frisbee, cornhole… while shared by the company of his children and grandchildren.
Dave treasured his time with family and loved being Sweetheart, Dad, Daddy, Pops, Papa.
Dave also had a soft spot for animals. Einstein is a Rottweiler mix that he and Lucy rescued when he was
three months old. They often walked the back yard together traveling down to Thalia Creek to watch
the turtles, ducks, geese and various birds.
Comments from friends and family all say he had a heart of gold and most of all they will miss his laugh.
Dave had such a wonderful sense of humor and tried to bring a smile to everyone’s face and if he got a
laugh, that was even more treasured.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Lucy; two children Michael Shippy, Kristin (Tyrone)
Brenneman; four grandchildren Briana Norvell, Ryan Shippy, Tyler Shippy, Milena Brenneman; great-
grandchild Genevieve Shippy; mother Emily Rotenberg (Olds), and two sisters, Nanette (Phillip)
Snyderburn, and Emily (Louis) Guglielmello.
Dave was preceded in death by his father Joseph Shippy, brother Joey Shippy, and step-father Norman
Rotenberg.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later (undetermined) date.
