Deacon Leroy Brooks, Jr. departed his earthly life to receive eternal rest on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. He was born August 3, 1949 to the late Rev. Leroy A. Brooks, Sr. and Evangelist Eva L. Brooks in the Crestwood section of Chesapeake. He was predeceased by three siblings, Charline Beamon, Leslie Wilson and Ricky Brooks.
Leroy grew up in the Crestwood Community and was affectionately known to many as “Killer Joe or Bay Brother”. He attended Crestwood High School, Chesapeake. Leroy was a hard worker and known as a “survivor”. He would always help anyone in need and took immerse pride in everything he set out to do. Leroy worked most of his teenage and entire adult life to provide for his family. He was a dedicated father and successful business owner of his own landscaping business.
In 2011, Leroy was ordained as a Deacon at St. Stephen Holiness Church, Chesapeake. Another one of Leroy’s greatest passions was serving his church and church family. This was displayed in numerous ways over the years. Leroy maintained a strong faith in the Lord.
Leroy leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Maria A. Brooks; his children, Diana, Josette (Craig), Michael, Cherrod, Cori (Tia), Kasey, Marcell and Maronda (Sergio); five siblings, Leola Brooks, Angela Williams, Donald Brooks, Alphonso Brooks (Tracey) and Hubert Brooks (Darlene); twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a good friend Mike Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
