Deaconess Alice Stevenson Obituary

Deaconess Alice Stevenson peacefully departed this earthly life on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Alice was born on April 27, 1940, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, to the late William and Lizette Sands. She graduated from Princess Anne Training School in Virginia Beach and was later united in marriage to the late Clinton Stevenson, a union that lasted 57 years. Together, they were blessed with three children: Teresa, Beverly, and Anthony. Alice was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Ann Ruffin and Nancy Mullen,  nephew, Kevin Ruffin, and great grandson Aron Phillips.

Alice was employed by Tidewater Health Care for many years which later became Sentara Health Care, where she retired after 42 years of service. She was a school bus attendant with the City of Virginia Beach

She was an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, Usher, and a member of the original Silver Slippers Praise Dancers and Junior Choir. She was also a member of the First Lynnhaven Baptist Church of Virginia Beach.

Alice was very family oriented. There was nothing that she wouldn't do to ensure her Children's needs were met. She also loved to shop whether it was at the mall or on QVC.

Alice leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Teresa Proctor and Beverly Crowder (Dennis); one son, Anthony Stevenson (Gendena); four grandchildren: Tershel Phillips (James), Whitney Crowder Rouse (Rickey), Sherika Cason, and William Antwoan Kearney; three great-grandchildren, Izaiah Phillips, James Phillips Jr and Jania Cason; one niece, Wanda Mullen Walker; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Special thanks to Beth Shoalom and staff for caring for her.

Alice's warmth, kindness, and faith-filled life leave a legacy that will forever be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
