Dennis Goffigan, Jr. Obituary

Dennis Lee Goffigan, Jr. was called to everlasting life peacefully and quietly on Friday, May 9, 2025. Dennis was born on December 12, 1942, to the late Deacon Dennis Lee Goffigan, Sr. and the late Goletha Cowell Goffigan in Virginia Beach, Va.

At an early age, Dennis accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at First Lynnhaven Baptist Church, where he remained a member for many years. He received his education in the Princess Anne County School System. Dennis attended Seatack Elementary School and Princess Anne County/Union Kempsville High School, graduating with the Class of 1960. Shortly after graduating, Dennis enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Dennis met the love of his life, Etta Goffigan, and they were married for 34 years. Together, Dennis and Etta became faithful members of Weeping Mary Church.

Dennis was employed with Southern Material/TARMAC America, Inc., where he worked diligently at both locations and retired after more than twenty years of faithful service. He was a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan. He also enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, and golf. In addition to being a sports enthusiast, Dennis had great culinary skills-one of his favorite hobbies was cooking. Any way you wanted it, he could fix it. He loved to cook for family, friends, and even strangers. He was not satisfied unless he fed you-especially his famous pork barbecue.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon Dennis Lee Goffigan, Sr. and Goletha Cowell Goffigan. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Etta; sisters, Joyce Goffigan, Lydia Monroe; stepchildren, Gwendolyn Bridges (husband Cameron), Gerald Penn; two nephews, Michael Jones and John Monroe. He was affectionately known as "Grandpa" to Terrell, Gerrell, Erika, Ariel, Castelle, Darnell, Zaire, Legend, and Trishawna.
