Derrick Lamont Mason, Sr., 52, of Phenix, Alabama graced this world on August 24, 1971 and left a lasting legacy on April 15, 2024 while fulfilling his assigned duty in Germany. He was born to Laura R. Mason and the late Dorsey L. Mason in Hampton, Virginia, the youngest of four children.
Derrick was educated in the Hampton public schools system and graduated from Hampton High School Class of 1989. While in high school, he played football for the Hampton High School Crabbers, Jersey #31. After graduation, Derrick enlisted in the United States Army. He served 26 years and retired as a Sergeant First Class (SFC).
While serving in the military Derrick furthered his education and received a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services and Master’s degree in Organizational Management. His military career afforded him the opportunity to travel all over the world. During his travel he met the love of his life, Francine. They married and resided in Phenix City, AL. Derrick and Francine loved the Lord and their place of worship and membership was with Life Changing Church in Columbus, GA, under the leadership of Bishop Tony Banks. Derrick was a part of several organizations but the one he adored most was being a Mason. He was a dedicated member and elevated to 33rd Degree with Demarcus Temple #58 in Kentucky.
Derrick returned home to Virginia on a work assignment for a short while and joined Faith Praise Deliverance Ministries under the leadership of his brother, Bishop D. Rydell Mason, until his unexpected passing. Derrick loved his children and would often talk about how proud he was of their accomplishments and achievements. He loved his family dearly and when he was home, he enjoyed spending time with his mother, sister, and close friends.
Derrick was predeceased by his father, Dorsey L. Mason and one brother, Ronald L. Mason.
Derrick leaves to cherish his fond memories, his lovely wife, Francine Mason of 15 years; three children, one daughter, DeShe’ Mason, Hampton, VA; two sons, Derrick L.
