Dewey Lawson Kerley, 98, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2021, at Luther Manor Senior Living Apartments in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born on July 11, 1923, to Lawson and Cuma Childers Kerley in Vashti, NC.
After graduating from Hiddenite High School, Dewey farmed with his grandfather, growing apple and peach orchards. He also chauffeured his grandpa and started his own business transporting produce up and down the east coast to various grocers. Dewey followed with managing the “Food Basket” in Statesville, NC until retiring.
As the oldest brother, he had a reputation for looking out for his siblings. To all of his siblings, he was a good brother.
After retirement, he and his wife Kathleen moved to Virginia Beach, VA to be near family. He enjoyed this time with his daughter, grandchildren, and making new friends. Dewey’s grandchildren were a priority to him, and he spent as much time as possible adoring them.
Dewey’s faith in his savior, Jesus Christ was strong, and he shared his belief with others. He was a dedicated viewer of Dr. Charles Stanley and enjoyed his preaching and Christian charity work.
Dewey leaves to cherish his fond memories, one sister, Hazel Kerley Spera of Stoney Point, NC; two grandchildren, Jimmie Douglas Lawson Ciccone; one great granddaughter, Tammie Ciccone; one great grandchild, Jimmie Ciccone all of Thornton, CO. Dewey has many nieces and nephews residing in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dr. Stanley’s “In Touch Ministries” or the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Virginia Beach, VA.
