Diane Woodruff

We are sad to announce the passing of Diane (Moehring) Woodruff of Norfolk, VA. Upon her cancer diagnosis in October 2022, Diane fought valiantly, however, she lost her battle on April 26th, 2023 at 4:11 pm surrounded by her loving family. She was 66 years old. 

Diane was born at Great Lakes Naval Training Center Hospital in Illinois to Dolores Mae (Richardson) Moehring and Clifford Leroy Moehring on December 12, 1956. As a military dependant, her family moved a lot and in 1969 the family settled in Bellevue, NE where she graduated from Bryan High School in 1975. Soon after graduation, Diane aspired to join the Navy but marriage and motherhood sent her on a new path. Diane was a loving mother and military spouse for all her life; traveling around the country and even the world where she gave birth to her second child in Yokosuka Japan. She stayed home to care for her children until they were old enough for her to work full-time. She then went to work at Prime Care Credit Union and soon after was offered a position with Portsmouth Schools Federal Credit Union where she served as President and CEO for two decades. 

The greatest joys in Diane's life were her two children, two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren which kept her busy and well loved through her retirement. She enjoyed reading, gardening and crocheting making a new blanket or stuffed animal with each new addition to the family. 

She is preceded in death by her mother Dolores Mae Moehring, sisters Jacqueline Bigler, Sharon Rhodes, and brother-in-law Jerald Antley.

She is survived by her children Augusta Lee (Mrs. Nathaniel Tyler), Luther Augustus Woodruff III (Madeline) both of Virginia Beach, VA; her three grandchildren, Kayla Lauren Fraser of Virginia Beach, VA, Kylie Laine Dessenberg of Norfolk, VA, Virginia Madison Woodruff of Va. Beach, VA and all of her loving great-grandchildren; father, Clifford Leroy Moehring, of Windsor, MO; siblings, Teresa (Mrs. Michael Whitaker), Karen (Mrs. Mark Theel), Michael (Marta) Moehring, Laura Brassard, Margaret (Mrs. Jerald Antley), Christine (Mrs. James Harrer), Catherine (Mrs. Douglas Pachunka), Nina Moehring, Rebecca Moehring, Debra (Mrs. Mark Seligman); uncles, John Richardson of Libertyville, IL, Donald Moehring of Windsor, MO, Gene Ketterhagen of Salem, WI; brothers-in-law, Gregg Rhodes, Raymond Bigler and many many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Services will be held privately. Flowers will be accepted at Beach Funeral and Cremation Services in Virginia Beach, VA.
