Dolores Elaine Marbury was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 4, 1932. She was the third daughter to the late Oscar and Ada Archer. She transitioned peacefully on November 11, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ada Archer, her sisters Gloria Bernard, Jeanette Brashear, and her niece Doreen Manning.
Dolores attended Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn, New York, graduating in 1950 with a Commercial Course Degree. Having an athletic spirit, she played volleyball, basketball, tennis, softball, and soccer earning an “Athletic Pin.” She was proficient in shorthand and was a member of the Stenography Speed Club. In 1954, she married Robert O. Marbury and from this union came their two children, Robert Kevin Marbury, and Denise Cheryl Marbury-Stewart.
Dolores was employed by the New York City Department of Housing, Preservation, and Development for over 40 years, retiring as a Principal Administrative Assistant. She also served as a union steward/rep for NYC Local DC37, CWA1130. Dolores retired in 1992 and in 1996 she began a new chapter in her life after relocating to Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Dolores was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Lenora Manning, her children Robert Kevin Marbury, Ph.D. (Barbara); Denise Cheryl Marbury-Stewart (Bobby); granddaughter Robyn Simone Flood, nieces; Debbie Hansley, Jerri McCalmon, Kim Hall, Sharon Felton (also Goddaughter), nephews; Nicky Brundage, Ronnie Brundage, Leon Manning, and a host of great grand nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and special lifetime friend, Juanita Daring.
In this next phase of life without dear Dolores, we pray that God will be present and provide comfort, peace, strength and harmony to our family and all those who knew and loved her.
