Dorothy Ann Welch received her wings on Friday, January 16, 2026. Born on October 7, 1944; in Clover, South Carolina, to the late David Ratchford and Rebertha Watson Ratchford.
After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1963, Dorothy began her life adventures by moving to Hempstead, New York. She later relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where she met and married Ronald Welch. From this union, their daughter, Tamiko, was born.
The family later moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Dorothy resided for 27 years. During that time, she earned an Associate Degree in Computer Science from Pikes Peak Community College and was employed by Litton Technology and Hewlett-Packard.
Dorothy’s journey continued when she moved to Chesapeake, Virginia, where she was employed by Lifetouch until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her precious memories; her daughter, Tamiko Hardaway; son, Carlos Bright; granddaughters Chanel Burrell, Nyla Hardaway, Brionna Bright, Heaven Bright, and Skylar Bright; great-granddaughter Selah Rose; sister Helen Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dorothy will be remembered for her strength, determination, and love for her family. Her life’s journey reflected resilience, faith, and quiet grace, and her legacy lives on through the generations she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
