Dorothy Louise Williams, 69, received her angel wings on June 4, 2021 in her Virginia Beach home. She was born on August 25, 1951, in Princess Anne County.
She is predeceased by her parents Geneva and Dennis Whitehurst and her sister Barbara Johnson.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband John Williams, Jr.; six children; Rashida Penniston-Colclough (Keith) of Georgia, Shana Tucker (D’Angelo), Amber Penniston, Patrick Penniston, Charisma Williams (Abshalom), and Cheyenne Williams all of Virginia Beach. Three sisters; Josephine Langley (Bernard), Florence Serrano (Damaso), Gloria Whitehurst and three brothers Dennis Whitehurst, Armstrong Bond, George Bond, and Samuel Bond, also of Virginia Beach. Fourteen grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as Grandma. Additionally, she leaves behind two sisters in love Gwendolyn Gill and Trudy Riggens and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ms. D, as she was affectionately known by her friends and loved ones, was a dedicated employee to the City of Virginia Beach jail for over 20 years. Additionally, she spent several years in the food service industry.
One thing that everyone knows, Dorothy loved the Lord. She was a loyal and active member of City of Refuge Church for over 25 years.
Dorothy was always the life of the party. She had a natural high. Loving to talk smack at the bid whist and spades table. If she wasn’t hanging out with her sisters, or hubby, she was busy shopping on HSN or doing one of her favorite and most giving things, creating poetry. She was often referred to as “Lil Maya”, a reference to the late great Maya Angelou. Furthermore, there was never a time her door wasn’t open to someone in need.
Ma, Ms. D, Grandma, Aunt Dot, Sister Dorothy you will truly be missed!
