Eddie Rufus Davis of Norfolk, passed away at the Hampton VA Medical Center on 20 April 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on November 17, 1943 in Florence County, SC to the late Rufus and Hattie Mae Davis of Norfolk.
Eddie grew up in the Diggs Park neighborhood, in the Campostella community. He attended Booker T. Washington High School where he was a three-sport athlete, excelling in football, baseball and track & field. In 1963, Eddie answered the nation’s call to service and joined the U.S. Army where he served three tours of duty in Vietnam. For his service, he was awarded the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Sharpshooter Badge (M-16 rifle). Eddie retired on disability after 18 years of service.
Besides his parents, Eddie Rufus was predeceased by his older sister, Bertha, of San Diego, CA; younger brother, Larry, of Winston Salem, NC; and a grandson, James Davis, of Tacoma, WA.
Eddie leaves behind to cherish his memory: a daughter, Dierdre D. Harrison, of New York, NY; son, Eddie L. Davis (Tonya), of Norfolk, VA; two grandchildren, Kamayah Davis, of Levittown PA, Brian Barksdale, of New York, NY; great-granddaughter, Alisha Barksdale of New York, NY. Eddie’s surviving siblings include: James H. Davis (Ruby) of Chesapeake, VA, Frankie O. Davis (Nettie) of Portsmouth, VA, and Gwendolyn Grissette, of Nashville, TN. These family members, including a number of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, will hold Eddie’s memory in trust for the years to come.
