Edward D. Smith

Edward Derrell Smith, known to his family and friends as “BJ” was born February 18, 1980 in Norfolk, Virginia to Addie Elizabeth Smith- Dixon and the late Roosevelt Edward Short Jr.  He departed this life on October 24, 2025. 

BJ attended and graduated from Ocean Lakes High School.  As a mechanic, BJ found purpose in helping others through his work.  He was a man of profound faith and was taught that God is the true way to life.  This was woven into every fiber of his being.  BJ had an infectious personality and smile that could light up any room.  He loved good music, especially rapping.  Known by “Eddie Kaine”, BJ’s lyrics and beats were vibrant and big like his personality. His music definitely made you move.  He also found joy in watching movies, gaming and spending time at the beach.  Overall, BJ was a hard worker who enjoyed life to the fullest.  May BJ’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all whose lives he touched.

BJ leaves to cherish his memories: mother, Addie Elizabeth Smith-Dixon; daughter, Kalorra Smith; brothers, Eric Roscoe Smith (Tara Smith), Michael Bernard Smith (Tanaya Smith) and Roosevelt Short III; sisters, Tanisha Hyman Tiedemann (Hollie Tiedeman) and Tiffany Hyman.  He also leaves a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews to cherish his memories.
