Edwin Perez

Edwin Perez, 65, was born on November 16, 1960, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. As a young man, he moved to New York, New York, and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Edwin was a Marine through and through, even graduating from the Peace Officer Academy.

Edwin was a spunky, sarcastic jokester who loved playing phone games and joking around with family, especially trying to make the kids laugh when they were determined not to. No matter how much pain he was in, he always carried a smile bigger than anyone else’s. He was a calm and devoted son, brother, and husband who deeply adored his wife.

Edwin was an incredible father and grandfather who believed strongly in manners and respect. He loved teaching the children to say “May I” instead of “Can I.” Guided by his strong love for God, Edwin believed people should love one another and never missed a chance to say “I love you,” making sure those around him always knew how much they meant to him.

Edwin was always giving his blessings to others, whether to family, friends, neighbors, or even strangers. He carried kindness and compassion everywhere he went and never hesitated to help anyone in need. Deep in his faith, he loved his community and could often be found faithfully praying with his prayer group.

Edwin was predeceased by his brother, Hector Perez.

Edwin leaves to cherish his fond memories, his wife, Yolanda Behabib; children, Melissa Perez, Jasmin Torres, Christine Santiago, Natalie Benhabib; grandchildren, Christian Ramirez, Ariana Torres, Alina Santiago, MJ Santiago, Lucas Rivera; mother Luz Santiago; siblings, Enid Perez; and a host of other relatives and friends.
