On Monday, April 20, 2020, Elisha Cherry, Jr. peacefully left his earthy home and entered into eternal life with the Lord. We will miss him, but we take comfort in knowing that he will suffer no more. Today, we celebrate a life that means so much to many.
Teddy, as he was affectionately known, was born October 8, 1950 to the late Elisha Cherry, Sr. and Dorothy Cherry Lewiston of NC. After living in North Carolina for many years the family relocated to Harlem, NY.
He was predeceased by his wife, Thelma Lee Cherry; sister, Dorothy Bryant; brother, Willie Williams & grandmother, Annie M. Cherry.
Elisha was educated in the New York Public School System. As a very young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving 3 years and later received an honorable discharge. He worked as a counselor for the city of New York and some years later received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, a Master’s Degree in Theology and Social Work. He was a family man and loved to be surrounded by his family and close friends.
Elisha leaves to cherish his memory with everlasting love, his mother, Dorothy Cherry; 2 children, Jacqueline Coleman and Tyeast Quick; one brother, Donald Powell; sisters, Barbara Still (David), Nancy Hutty, Patrice Bruder, Beverly Bristow, Cecelia Jones, Suprina Cherry and Sabrina Cherry; special niece, Katherine Hodges; special loves, the Dowe family; 30 nieces and nephews, 40 great nieces and nephews and a host of other family members and friends.
