In the loving arms of Jesus, Mr. Ellis Corinthain Hamberry, age 61, slipped away on Saturday, June 26, 2021. He was born on December 31, 1959 the beloved son of the late Ellis R. Hamberry and Bernice O. Graves of Virginia Beach, VA.
Ellis was educated in the Virginia Beach Public School System and attended First Colonial High School. He served our country in the United States Army and upon leaving, he worked as a Drywall Contractor with his father.
During his Christian experience, Ellis attended St. mark AME Church in Virginia Beach. He loved crabbing, fishing, cooking and was a great teacher to so many.
Ellis was a gifted musician and singer. His initial training and singing was with his parents and siblings, “The Hamberry Singers”. Ellis became a professional vocalist with several different local gospel quartet groups. He sang with “God’s Permission” with the legendary recording artist, Cecil T. Jenkin, Jr, the last protégé of Marvin Gaye. He also sang with the famed group Sesiland Lujon with Deleota “Al” Johnson “aka” Lujon; and appeared in music videos.
Ellis loved celebrating his birthday with fireworks, since he was born on New Year’s Eve. He was a firm believer of family and was always available to help, serve and care for relatives in need.
Besides his parents, Ellis was predeceased by one grandchild, Khiyana M. Lane
Ellis was loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle. His love and memories will remain in the hearts of his son, Corinthian Lamar Jones; two daughters, Erica Danielle Hunter, Sasha Maria Lane; four brothers, Abdulla Din Muhammad, Timothy Hamberry, Casey Hamberry and Jody Hamberry; one sister, Esther Jones (Tyrees); eight grandchildren, Corinthian L. Jones Jr., Makayla J. Grant, Mackenzie L. Hunter, Raegan M. Hunter, Aria B. Hunter, Bryant R. Hunter Jr., Messiah K. Valme, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
