Elvas G. Boyd, a man whose presence was a beacon of strength, love, and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and God entered into eternal rest on July 16, 2024. He was born in Longview, TX on September 11, 1937 to the late Jimmie Sr. and Clara Boyd.
Elvas enlisted in the US Navy as an AE-7132 Electrician. While serving his county, he pursued a degree in Business Management through Tidewater Community College, George Washington University, William and Mary University and Norfolk State University. Elvas received numerous honors in the military and was promoted to E7 before he retired. He went on to work at Canon, LifeNet, and AB Dick where he completed his civilian retirement.
Elvas Boyd was an active member of his church, serving as an usher, on the finance committee, a trustee, steward, and was a vital part of the Men's Fellowship. He loved sports, especially football, baseball and basketball all of which he played in his younger years. Elvas also loved fishing, bowling, swimming and “making his yard pretty!” However, his love for Friday night pinochle with his card crew created bonds and memories that will last a lifetime. Elvas was an avid bowler and a true lover of music. Most importantly, he was a God-fearing man. He instilled the love of Christ in his family, guiding them with faith, devotion, and unwavering dedication to God.
Besides his parents, Elvas was predeceased by nine siblings, Jimmie Boyd Jr., Lee Manuel Boyd, JC Boyd, J. Johnnie Boyd, Rogers Edward Boyd, Gladys Mae Lucas, Gussy Lee Wallace, Nelvia Alford, and Jimmy Jackson.
Elvas is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Iona Vick Boyd; children, Kimberly Jenkins (Harry), Jon Boyd, Brenda Foster, Christopher Jones, Crystal Zanoni Jackson (Greg), Dr. Tonya Battle (Steve); grandchildren, Kaitlin, Chandler, Brendan, LaKisha, Dario, Harold, Brianna, Kristin, Jazmoni, Kirsten, Christian Sean, Whitney, Sydni, Leah; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Willie Edward Boyd (Rose), Fern Jeneal Christian; goddaughter, Kisha Metz (Fred); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends that will miss him dearly, as will his church family, St. Mark AME church, who admired his unwavering faith and service.
