A Life Well Lived…
I have fought the good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, shall give to me at that day, and not to me only, but to all of them that love His appearing. II Timothy 4:1-8
Thursday August 28, 2025 in the quiet of the mid-day, God in His perfect way touched his child, Eugene Brehon. Whispered in his ear, it is time to rest. And so it was then when this loving father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle and father-in-law exchanged time for eternity.
Eugene was born in Norfolk, VA on September 26, 1940 to the late George Brehon and Sarah L. Brehon-Morris. He attended Norfolk Public Schools and was a 1960 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He used his soft tenor voice to sing with the school’s choir under the direction of I. Sherman Green. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army and had his boot camp training in Ft. Benning, GA. After boot camp and duties on the post at Ft. Benning, he was deployed to Vietnam. Eugene was discharged from the Army and returned home where he worked for Colonial Warehouse and Shoney’s for a while before becoming a Longshoreman Local 1248. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 18 years. After returning from Vietnam in 1966, he married Gwendolyn Ware and from this union came two daughters.
Eugene was a man of many passions and even more heart. In his early years, he found joy and energy on the tennis court and throughout his life he remained a dedicated and loyal fan of the Washington Redskins and supported the New England Patriots. He loved listening to jazz and going to concerts. Above all, he loved his family. He was the epitome of a Girl Dad and carried this title with pride. Although he had a quiet presence, he was extremely sociable with a warm and gentle dimpled smile.
He is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Ethel Drake and Joe Drake; mother Sarah L. Morris and stepfather Hubert Morris, along with his sister Sadie Brehon, youngest brother Kelvin L. Morris, and three nieces Paula Brehon, Pamela Brehon-Bowman and Andrea Brehon-Green.
He leaves to cherish his memory Gwendolyn W. Brehon, two daughters Cheryl D. Brehon Broadnax (Jermel), Kimberly J. Brehon Warren (William “Bill”), three grandchildren, Jordan Christopher Broadnax, Myles Lee Broadnax and Briana Gabrielle Warren; two sisters Elaine B. Wilson, Mary T. Jacobs; two brothers Clarence Morris and LaMar S. Morris and an uncle Frederick W. Drake (Edith); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
