In Loving Memory of Fannie Mae Reid
I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the rightgeous judge shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that loved his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Fannie Mae Reid entered into eternal rest to be with the Lord on January 5, 2024 at the age of 83. She fought a courageous battle with a short standing illness. Fannie was one of eleven children (the oldest girl) born to Elbert and Lola Reid on July 29, 1940. She grew up in the Gibbs Wood section of Currituck, NC where she attended high school.
Fannie was preceded in death by her parents Elbert & Lola Reid; two brothers, Wilbert Reid and David Reid; two sisters, Paulette Richardson and Mable Reid Geathers.
Fannie’s journey led her to New York, where she dedicated two decades at B’Altman’s, rising to the role of Credit Collector Supervisor until the stores closure. The closure marked the end of an era, but Fannie’s resilience led her to the fulfilling halls of Cawley and Berman Law Firm until her heartfelt retirement in 2003. Her academic pursuits were a testament to her diverse interest - a degree in computer studies and a nursing certificate, embodying a spirit hungry for knowledge and care. Yet, Fannie’s true masterpiece was the canvas of hearts she touched. Her infectious smile and gentle spirit became the harmonious notes of a life symphony. A devoted Christian, Fannie was a faithful member of Church of the Meek in Harlem, New York. Fannie’s commitment transcended the walls of the Church. As President of Nurses, Vice President of Floral Club, Vice President of Ushers, and President of the Kitchen committee, she wove threads of warmth and unity. Fannie’s passion for fellowship radiated, blessing the lives of all she came into contact with.
Fannie leaves to cherish her memory, five children, eldest son, Patrick Reid (Diane) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, son, Sorell Watkins of New York, daughter, Stephanie Reid Beauvais (Jean) of Delaware, son, Efren Reid of Virginia Beach, VA, and son, Eric Brite (Yvonne) of Maryland; three grandsons, Randy Vargas, Maurice Reid and Eric Brite, Jr.; four granddaughters, Kameko, Haven, Imaani and Nia; three great grandchildren, Chole, Zaire and Jada; two brothers, James Reid of Norfolk, VA, Elbert Reid, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC; four sisters, Audrey Riddick (Cleveland) of Greensboro, NC, Christine Reid Rowe of Cheverly, MD, Jackie Tisdale (Keith) of Chesapeake, VA, Iris Harris (Vincent) of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister-In-Law Ann Reid of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother-In-Law, Kenneth Geathers of Kannapolis, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
