Felicia Yvonne Edwards "Nee Ellison" ,63, passed away peacefully at her home in Virginia Beach, VA on April 21, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born on November 21, 1961, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to proud parents Horace Ellison Sr. and Barbara Hilton. Felicia spent her childhood in Philly, Georgia and Guam, eventually graduating from high school in Germany. In 1985, she earned her undergraduate degree in Industrial Technology from Cheyney University, America’s first Historically Black College and University (HBCU)—and later received her master’s degree in education from Regent University in 2010. On July 26, 1986, Felicia married John Edwards in Philadelphia. Together, they raised two children: Naquita Shalon, born in 1987, and Diamonic Juriel, born in 1989.
Felicia was known for her candid nature, generosity, and unwavering support for her family and friends. She was effortlessly creative—an exceptional cook, a master gardener, and someone who found joy in restoring beauty to discarded things. During her lifetime, she worked alongside her mother as a hairstylist and excelled as a corporate bank account manager. However, she was most fulfilled in her role as an educator, retiring as a Special Education Teacher from the Virginia Beach Public School System. Felicia had a deep love for the ocean, music, enjoyed hosting gatherings, and treasured her travels, especially in Jamaica.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Hilton-Ellison. She is survived by her father, Horace Sr.; husband, John; daughter, Naquita Shalon; and son, Diamonic Juriel. She also leaves behind her three younger brothers—Horace Jr., Julian, and Steven; granddaughter, Jaelyn; two nephews, Horace III and Charles; her beloved Uncle Jerry, Aunt Doris, and Aunt Janice; as well as many cousins.
