Francis Charles Bruce, 61, of Virginia Beach, VA passed away unexpectedly June 30th, 2020.
Francis immigrated from The Gambia in the 1980’s to attend college at Virginia State University. Shortly after, he moved to Texas where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree at Lubbock Christian University. Raised in the Catholic faith, Francis was a devout parishioner and active member of The Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. As a successful small business owner, he donated to his community he served via the church and other various organizations and causes.
He will be remembered best for his generosity and support for friends and family as his charitable nature extended to anyone who was in need, regardless of circumstances. He loved spending time with family and friends especially if it involved a cookout or reggae music. He loved fishing, gardening and was an avid animal lover with a house filled with cockatoos, fish, and dogs.
Francis was predeceased by his parents, Charlie Bruce and Maimuna Williams. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his Widow Dawn Rodriguez-Bruce, first wife Bobbie Nell Bruce, his children Kathron Nicole Nichols (Frank), Joseph Hubert McDonald III (Ashley), Maimuna Rene Bruce (Jamar), Derrick Deshawn Bruce, and two stepdaughters from marriage, Jasmine and Starr. He leaves behind a brother, Charles Sam Bruce and sisters, Sally Bruce, Elizabeth Bruce-Ceesay, Catherine Bruce-Jawara, Anna Bruce-Nicol, Emma Bruce, Lizy Phatty-Mendy and Isatou Chow. In addition. Furthermore, he is survived by seven grandchildren, Jamari, Sahara, Shamar, Zechariah, Savannah, Josiah and Zephaniah and an army of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends, including many from childhood.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life gathering at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Virginia Beach on Tuesday, July 7th, 2020 at 11:00am with interment following immediately at Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.
