Gary Wesley Melton, aged 64, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on September 5, 2024. Born on May 11, 1960, in Richmond, VA, Gary was a beacon of strength and compassion. Despite a life-altering auto accident in 1981, which left him disabled, Gary's relentless spirit saw him not only survive but thrive against all odds. He established a business tailored to meet the needs of the handicapped, dedicating countless hours to volunteering and improving the lives of others with disabilities.

Gary was a man of deep passion and dedication, described by those who knew him as courageous and caring. His commitment extended to disabled military veterans, for whom he tirelessly worked, despite having no military service himself. His efforts were an embodiment of service in a different uniform, one of civilian honor and duty.

He is survived by his brothers: Mike (Pat) Melton, Billy Melton. Nieces and Nephews: Erin (Matt), Eva Lohr, Michael (April), Bryce, Quinnlan Melton, Hailey Beasley, Landon Beasley, Brooke (Camron), Jaxon Hasty, Mackenzie Melton. Aunt: Audrey (Bob) Ramsey. Friend and Caregiver: William Carroll. Lifetime and Close Friends: Malcolm Needham, Debbie Swartz, William "Rusty" Adams, Harold Smith, Phil Mahanes.

Gary's educational journey began in Henrico county schools and culminated at First Colonial High, laying a strong foundation for his later achievements.

The details of Gary's memorial service is currently being arranged and will be announced shortly. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), honoring Gary's legacy of support and advocacy for disabled veterans.

Gary's life was a profound testament to the power of resilience and the impact one individual can have on the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
