For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved,
we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. -II Corinthians 5:1
The Life of
Mother Georgia Mae Williams Mitchell
On Thursday, October 26, 2023, our beloved Georgia Mae quietly completed this earthly journey, and answered God’s call to lay down her burdens and enter into eternal rest.
Georgia Mae, who was affectionally known as “Joy,” was born September 4, 1942, to the late Jeremiah Williams, Sr., and Eula Bryant Williams. She was reared in Princess Anne County, now known as Virginia Beach, and was educated at Princess Anne County Training School.
Georgia Mae was employed with Virginia Beach City Public Schools as a special education bus driver for more than thirty years.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and joined Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ. Through the years she served with various church ministries, namely, administration, as the church secretary, Sunday School, as a teacher, Senior Choir Ministry, and Usher Ministry. She was well known for organizing Church Trips, which included the sale of Katydids, of which the community looked forward to purchasing. She was a servant, led by God to support her church family. Some of her favorite songs were “Precious Lord,” “I Can’t Give Up,” “It’s Your Time,” “God Is Still In Charge,” and” Still Here.”
Georgia Mae was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone and everyone. She loved all her family members, neighbors, and community with her whole heart.
In addition to her parents, Georgia Mae was predeceased by her husband, Reverend Kermit Mitchell; sons, Kevin and Kermit Mitchell; brother, Jeremiah Williams; sons-in-law, Reverend Roderick Jernigan and Jasper Little; and grandson, Devin Gross.
Georgia Mae leaves to cherish precious memories, five daughters, Mary Little, Janice Beckles (Charles), Cheryl Mitchell, Kimberly Jernigan, and SheNean Mitchell (Lamont); eleven grandchildren, Turkessa, LaVar, Charles (Anna), Janelle (James), Jarrett, Jasmine (Nicholas), Justin, Shayna (Harun), Shalia, Destiny, and Curtis; one sister-in-law, Rosa Mitchell-Henderson (Edward); daughter-in-law, Sheila Mitchell; special niece, Selena Williams-Nobles and special nephew, Nathaniel Williams, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We miss her now; our hearts are sore. As time goes by, we’ll miss her more. Her loving smile and gently face, no one on earth can ever fill her vacant place.
Sorrowfully submitted,
The Family of Mother Georgia Mae Williams Mitchell
