Obituary for Marie G. Spellman
Marie G. Spellman, lovingly known as "Mamarere," was born on October 26, 1937, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Miles Wilson Griffin and the late Jannie Bertha Griffin. She was called home peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and devotion to family. Marie loved the Lord and was a member of New Life Providence Church.
Marie was married to the love of her life; the late Jerry J. Spellman, for over 65 years before his passing. From this union there were 4 children. Marie was a vibrant and nurturing woman who treasured time with those she loved. She was known for her warm spirit, caring heart, and the joy she found in being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and extended family. To many, she was not only a mother and grandmother, but also a trusted friend and source of encouragement.
A strong advocate for education and lifelong learning, Marie believed deeply in the power of knowledge and growth. Her dedication to excellence was reflected in her professional career, where she served as a Computer Specialist System Analyst for the federal government for 26 years. Through her work and example, she inspired others to pursue their goals with determination and integrity.
Along with her husband, Marie is also predeceased by her son, Reynaldo L. Spellman Sr. Marie leaves to cherish her loving memory: her three children: Ronnie Spellman (Betty),
Anthonette Spellman, and Jeryl Butts (Jimmy); eleven grandchildren; nineteen
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Dilliard and Christine Cole; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends who will forever remember her love and kindness.
Though she will be deeply missed, the legacy of love, strength, and wisdom she poured into her family will live on for generations to come.
