Gladys Preston Obituary

Gladys V. Preston, daughter of the late David and Ella Miller, was born June 25, 1932 in Calhoun County, South Carolina. She entered into eternal rest June 14, 2026, comfortably at home in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Gladys was married to the late James Preston Sr.  Of this union, six children were born.

Gladys attended Victory Life Fellowship in Portsmouth, VA where she was the mother of the church. After Covid she decided to continue her studies at home.

Gladys was a homemaker, as well as providing babysitting services for friends and family in need. She later transitioned into a home health aid at Kimberly care in Port Chester, NY, where she worked for 10+ years. Gladys was also a 4-H Club Mentor, a globally known organization that provides guidance for youth by teaching hands-on life skills.

Gladys learned recipes while at home where she would cook with her mother for her brothers and sisters. She was known as an amazing cook; her cabbage/collard green recipe is still being used in her family and friends’ homes today.  Gladys was a Jackie of trades. She loved sewing, gardening, crafting, card games, and bingo. When she was able, she loved to travel to see family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Gladys is preceded in death by son James Preston Jr. and daughter Willie Mae Isaacs.

Gladys may have departed this life, but at the end of her rainbow, she leaves behind sons Thomas L Preston of Virginia Beach, VA and Anthony M. Preston of Norfolk, VA; daughters Frankie D. Slade of Virginia Beach, VA and Laveme Swain of Shelby, NC;  daughter-in-law Darlene Preston of Virginia Beach, VA; son-in-law, Earl Marsh of Shelby, NC; one Sister Lorena Howell of Titusville, FL; 16 grandkids, 24 great grands, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away." Revelation 21:4
