Gloria Miguel Altura, affectionately known as “Glo”, went into eternal rest on Monday, April 4, 2022. Born in Munoz Nueva Ecija Philippines, she graduated from Munoz Presidential High School, married her loving husband, Rogelio E. Altura on July 31, 1968 in the Philippines, then moved to the United States to start a new life as a Navy wife.
She was known for her strength, welcoming smile, and always voicing her honest opinions and comments.
She was a delightful hairstylist for over 30+ years. She received her Virginia cosmetology license on May 23, 1985, worked for Hair Cuttery for 10 years, then opened her home-based salon called Gloria’s Cuttery. She also worked part-time for Virginia Beach Public Schools as a custodian at Pembroke Elementary for several years.
Glo enjoyed gardening and walking her loveable dog Orea. She loved her family immensely and gave selflessly to her children, granddaughters, great-grandchildren, family and friends. Her granddaughters and great-grandchildren called her “Mama”.
She is predeceased by her father Zacarias Miguel, mother Felicidad Conde Miguel, sister Leona Rellera, brother Cresencio Miguel, and brother Andres Miguel. She leaves a legacy of love to her family, relatives, and friends. To cherish her memory is her husband of 53 years, Rogelio, and her children Stanley K. Altura and Janet M. Wilson (Shawn). Her beloved grandchildren Michelle J. Rodriguez and Reyna Rodriguez-Colon (Jonathan). Her precious great-grandchildren Adrian A. Morales and Ava M. Rodriguez Colon. Gloria leaves two sisters: Pacita Miguel Miranda of Las Vegas, Nevada and Fermina Miguel Licudan of the Philippines. Many others mourn her passing, including a host of nieces and nephews.
