Gloria Arrington

Gloria Elizabeth Arrington, of Chesapeake, Virginia passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2022. She was 80. Gloria was born August 26,1942, in Brooklyn, NY. She was the daughter of Mary E. Mitchell and the late Theophilus Mitchell. In her teenage years she moved to Hollis, a neighborhood in Queens, NY.

Gloria is survived by two daughters, Teri E. Franklin of Chesapeake, and Toby L. Word (David) of Chesapeake; daughter in-law, Sandra Love-Arrington; eight grandsons, and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband, Thomas H. Arrington, Jr. and a son, Thomas H. Arrington, III preceded her in death.

Active, adventurous, and talented, Gloria had various interests and passions. She loved to dance and passed this along to her two daughters. Gloria was a graceful diver, swimmer, and skier. An active member of a Black ski club, her sense of style was seen on the slopes as she skied in the United States, Europe, and South America. Gloria loved to travel with friends and family. With a passion for fashion, Gloria’s love of shopping served her well. Her wardrobe was fondly called Glo’s Boutique.

Professionally, Gloria was a great leader, working as an administrative professional and office manager. She worked in customer service at QVC for many years and enjoyed the benefits the shopping network provided.

Throughout her life, Gloria was an avid fan of classic New York City foods like Jewish deli specialties and pizza. She loved so many things about her hometown. Gloria had a heart as large as the Big Apple itself. She leaves a host of family and friends to cherish her memory.
