Early Life
Gwendolyn Givens Brown was born at Sydenham Hospital in Harlem, New York to Edward and Wilhelmina Givens on July 13, 1953. She was raised to love serving the Lord. She even was a singer in the Youth for Christ Choir at Bethel Gospel Tabernacle in Jamaica, New York.
Education
Gwendolyn was highly educated. She attended Andrew Jackson High School. After graduating high school, she studied to become a Medical Assistant. She furthered her education at Norfolk State University by earning an Associate Degree in Nursing. She later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Norfolk State University. After working as a registered nurse for many years, she decided to earn a Master of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University and worked as a licensed Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
Personal Life
She married Earl S. Brown and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. Together, the union bore two daughters. The union would later separate yet continue to remain friends.She worked in various healthcare settings throughout her career. Prior to her death, she worked as a school nurse and as a home healthcare with the pediatric population. She was also a member of the Enoch Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She enjoyed the finer things in life. She would often accessorize with over 30 pieces of sterling silver bangle bracelets. She also enjoyed the Opera and performed in plays. She was a member of the Virginia Opera Guild and even served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Opera.Gwendolyn also had various pets. She had numerous dogs as a child and continued that love of dogs as an adult. She had several toy poodles that served as companions to her life.
