Haywood Harris

Haywood was called to eternal rest on October 3, 2024 at the young age of 103. 

He was born to the late Frank and Anna Harris on February 8, 1921 in Baltimore Maryland.  After high school he enlisted in the US Army where he served two years.  Upon discharge he became gainfully employed with the US Postal Service where he faithfully worked until retirement.  Haywood joined the Masonic Lodge and was honored with the highest degree of the Scottish rite.  He enjoyed many years of retirement and spent much of his time with his neighbor Richard Johnson who he loved as a brother.   His favorite hobby was bowling in a league and he would often teach people about the fundamentals of bowling. He was a member of The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Norfolk, although he was not physically able to attend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Sarah and Ella.  He leaves to mourn his son, Vernon Stephond Harris (Tensis), Fredericksburg, VA; four grandsons, Marcus Harris, Chesapeake, VA, Marcus Pickett (Sierra), Oakland, FL, Chris Pickett (Lindsey), Virginia Beach, VA, Kelvin Nicholson (Shaleia); and ten great-grandchildren; and many loving friends.
