James Christopher Walker was the only child of Wanda Mullen Walker and Samuel J. Walker, born August 15, 1991, in Virginia Beach, VA. He departed his earthly existence on April 16, 2026, at the age of 34. He was predeceased by both sets of his grandparents: maternal - Winfield and Nancy Mullen and paternal - John and Pennie Walker. He is survived by his loving parents, Samuel and Wanda Walker, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
His formative years were spent being educated in Virginia Beach Public School System. He graduated from Princess Anne High School in 2013.
James was a member of Body of Believers Outreach Ministries COGIC, located at 725 W. 35th Street, Norfolk, VA, Pastor William O. Cornick, Jr. Although James was nonverbal, he communicated his joy and love of life in a number of ways. His excitement could be seen and felt by witnessing the smile on his face, the clapping of his hands or the kicking of his feet. His gentleness of spirit could be felt whenever you were in his presence. He was often lovingly referred to as a gentle giant.
James loved life! He was especially fond of food, bathing, the beach, taking car rides, spending time with his parents, and of course music. Some of his parents’ fond memories revolved around these activities. Once, while attending The Wizard of Oz play, at Kellam High School, James heard the jazz band playing behind him. He turned completely around to face them, mesmerized, giving the band his full, undivided attention. There were many occasions when he accompanied his father, to witness him playing his guitar, with gospel groups. Once on yet another occasion, James was in a talent show; but the moment he saw his mother, he abandoned the talent presentation, to sit adoringly at her feet.
Although James' life was short, he had a huge impact on those he came in contact with. Whether in school, the community or healthcare facilities, James' gentle spirit, warm smile and his fight to live were profoundly evident.
James' last two years were especially difficult. He spent them, in and out over various healthcare facilities, overcoming several health issues. His final moments were spent at Sentara Leigh Hospital, in Norfolk, VA. James was the gentle giant that fought the good fight to the end.
